Comparison between Plain milling machine and Universal milling machine are as follows :
- The plain milling machine is provided with three table movements: longitudinal, cross and vertical whereas a universal milling machine has four movements of the table in addition of above three and swivelled horizontally and can be fed at an angle to the milling machine spindle.
- The universal milling machine is possible to produce spur, spiral bevel gears, twist drills, reamers, milling cutters and all types of milling, drilling and shaping operation.
- The plain milling machine is more rigid and heavier in construction than a universal milling machine.
- The plain type is particularly adapted for manufacturing operations and universal type is intended more for room work and for special milling operations.
