What is calorific value?
- The calorific value of a fuel is the total
quantity of heat liberated when a unit mass of the fuel is burnt completely.

in case of solid or liquid fuel.
In the case of gaseous fuels the unit used is kilocalorie per meter.
It is usually
denoted by joules per kilogram.
