Welding and Brazing are two main techniques used to make strong, long-lasting metal joints. There are a number of ways to link metal pieces together, such as adhesive bonding and mechanical fasteners, but there are usually just two possibilities. What is Welding?

Using high heat, high pressure, or both two or more metal components are joined during the welding process. As they tool, the joining components melt and fuse together. Although it can be used on wood, welding is most frequently employed to affix metal thermoplastics together. Filler metal is an additional piece of metal used during the welding process to fill in or seal any potential gaps is also employed. 

What is Brazing?

In order to form a bond between the two joining metals, brazing entails melting a filler metal into a joint. For the filler metal to be introduced into the joint in a capillary action during brazing, a short joint spacing is necessary. An appropriate phase temperature of 840 degrees F or higher is necessary to assemble the pieces. 

Welding Vs Branzing | Difference between Welding and Brazing:

  • Welding is the jointing process in which both pieces of workpiece melted together with or without the application of filter materials. Brazing is the joining process in which a workpiece is heated below its melting temperature and the joint is made by use of a filter material known as brazing. 
  • The temperature of welding is above the melting point of the workpiece. It is almost 3600 degrees C. Brazing is done much below the melting temperature which is almost 600 degrees C.
  • The use of filler metal is not compulsory in welding. Filler metal is used compulsorily in brazing.
  • The workpiece must be clean before welding. The workpiece should be clean but it is not compulsory in brazing.
  • Welding is the form of the strongest joint. Brazing joints are weaker than welding.
  • Welding is properties of base metal may change after joining. Brazing is the properties of base metals that remain the same after joining. 
  • Welding is the best suitable to join the large assemblies. While the brazing is best suited for joining small assemblies.
  • Welded joints can withstand high temperatures. While the brazing joint cannot withstand high temperatures.
  • Welding is mostly used to join similar metals. Brazing is mostly used to join dissimilar metals.
